The UCI Health Workplace Violence Prevention (WVP) Coordinator provides support for the UCI Health WVP program and efforts to ensure compliance with the various regulatory requirements in Cal-OSHA’s WVP standard for healthcare facilities (8CCR3342). Responsibilities include project administration associated with planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating WVP strategies, regular rounding and availability to patient care areas to provide training, incident follow-up and assessment services, assisting in analysis of workplace violence incidents and providing recommendations and additional training, coordinating enhancements in interdisciplinary communication regarding workplace violence prevention, if necessary; collecting and compiling data on employee injuries related to workplace violence; tracking advances in WVP programs and making recommendations for UCI Health; collaborating with UCIPD and other UC Health campuses to contribute to a coordinated WVP program UC-wide. The WVP Coordinator also supports the WVP Committee and will present information to various groups, including but not limited to, senior leadership, patient care unit staff, and ambulatory clinic staff. Works collaboratively with various stakeholders such as Nursing, Safety and Security, Risk Management, Facilities, Emergency Management, and other related departments.

Skills/Eligibility:

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Prior experience and training investigating workplace violence incidents, threats and/or behaviors of concern.
  • General knowledge of physical security and workplace violence hazard assessment principles.
  • General knowledge of behavioral threat assessment and management (BTAM) principles.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education in business, healthcare administration, safety, public health, public administration or related field
  • Ability to facilitate both large and small groups for training/education/meetings
  • Ability to assess complex issues, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to work independently, good organizational skills, computer skills, motivated to seek continued education


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Certification through applicable industry associations (e.g., ATAP CTM; ASIS CPI, CPP, or PSP; IAHSS CHPA).
  • Prior experience in the health care field in a position involving considerable judgment and discretion
  • Background in WVP Program implementation in Health Care settings
  • Advanced training/certification in WPV or physical security related concepts (e.g., CPTED).
